I found the pre-work Angelina asked me to complete to be an excellent starting point for me to reflect on my current life situations and identify particular areas that were at the forefront of my mind that I was not satisfied with and no clarity around when making future decisions.
Even during times of confusion on my part during the coaching sessions, I wanted to seek clarity around personal and work situations. Angelina remained focused and reassuring in our conversations to break down my thoughts and view points. Overall, I found each session I would go in with one small issue that I thought I would talk about and by the end of the 1 hour session each time I walked away with a greater insight to how I had constructed my thought processes around particular scenario’s and situations. Each coaching session added value to my day to day life at work and at home from the moment I left the each session. I felt empowered to look and explore my thought process in particular work and personal situations and make conscious decisions I would not have normal made based on a ‘value set’ we identified in the coaching sessions.
Going into one coaching sessions, I wanted to identify if I would continue with teaching gym classes. Prior to commencing the sessions, I wasn’t sure if teaching my classes each week was something I wanted to continue doing as it continually felt like a burden to commit this time and I wasn’t feeling a lot of satisfaction around teaching. A common theme that came up through the coaching sessions was the enjoyment and emotion that I get out of teaching these classes each week and it was purely related to the connection with the people in the room, where in the past I was focused on what was being taught and not the experience of the participants. This was not something I had distinguished I wanted to get out of my teaching when I first set out to achieve these goals two years ago. I actually got clarity from the coaching sessions that I was there more for the connection with the people in my classes. Once I had clarity around this, the weight/feeling of the burden of teaching multiple classes and juggling this work load with a full time job actually removed all feelings of pressure. I now walk into a class, 15 mins prior to the class and become totally comfortable my participants as they set-up, this change in behavior of arriving 15 mins before has completely changed my teaching style and makes me personally available to my participants. Through this one change has made a huge impact to my ability to have freedom around my teaching. I can see that my class numbers are now stable and growing and I actually enjoy my teaching again and it doesn’t feel like work!!
The coaching has added value to my relationships with my staff, my gym participants and my relationships with partner and friends. During one particular session we looked at values and value sets. I found this to be one of the most useful tools to give me the added confidence to make decisions I would not normally make in my relationships based around my value set.
Having to make some tough calls when delivering performance management discussions with staff, has made some of these conversations and approaches far more effective when discussing the issues from a place of values driving behaviors.
In my personal relationships, coming from a place of values in when discussing some tough situations has meant the emotional response to decisions is far less prevalent and much more focused around my own personal values.
I would highly recommend Angelina’s services to friends and colleagues if they are at a point where they are stuck, overwhelmed and or feel a bit directionless.
Also the coaching sessions provide a good platform for people who want to formulate the next set of goals in their life and want to distinguish clarity and direction around why they want to achieve these goals before setting them and while setting them.
