So here it is my long awaited first article …. how long you might ask? Lets just say that even the best laid plans can often get parked for a while under a palm tree for a few months!
That confession made let me share with you my thoughts, observations and suggestions when it comes to the business of confidence.
Why would you want to read more about the number career killer in the universe….It’s what stops 95% of the cases I have researched from taking their next career step!
You know it’s been said that most people prefer to be in the box than giving the actual eulogy! Is that you?
If it is know most people would happily let some one else stand in their spot light no matter what the situation. I am hearing the voice in your head say so what! I am quite happy being a wall flower; it has served me well all these years! Really or that just the record you have been running for so long now that you actually believe it?
• Does that voice in your head also tell you that you could never stand up in front of an audience?
• Does the thought of it made you feel queasy, maybe the blood pressure is kicking up a notch or you feel you palms starting to get sweaty. Hang on a minute, before you really go into melt down stop and ask your self what is the worst that could happen, go on….
• Do you think that you will get rotten tomatoes thrown at you or booed off the stage? Don’t kid yourself that only happens to famous comedians or Jerry Seinfeld in stand up.
• Did you spend your whole school life never being the popular one, always last to get picked on the sports team?
• So you never stood out in a crowd, is it worth considering what it’s cost you to hide behind the others?
See certainty attracts attention; I’d go as far to say that it’s demanded. When you meet a person with an air of confidence you stand up and take notice. Why else do we flock to stadiums to watch performers on stage? Is it so we can be lost in the courage and certainly of another yet again or is there a deeper more profound reason, a secret hope that we too could hold an audience in the palm of our hand?
Have you ever wondered why actors seem to dislike the paparazzi?
I wonder could it be most prefer to get in to character first before they face the world!
Ask your self if you weren’t hiding behind your perfectly scripted character then who would you be some day, some where, somehow?
A mentor of mine once said “life isn’t by chance it’s by choice”.
So what if today you made a different choice. Are you ready to strip back the character you’ve been playing and find the real you. The alternative is stay the same and wait…. I don’t know maybe for some day, some where, somehow when the future you deserve lands in your lap!
I mean if you were ready to break free today why would you need to wear your sun glasses in winter or pack on product for an hour in front on the mirror in the morning.
Is it really the clothes, cosmetics and accessories that define us?
When did you decide to hide the real you?
Maybe don’t strip back all the layers at once because that would be a huge step wouldn’t it!
What if you started with one and then gradually threw away the last one over time, does that feel safer, can you tell yourself its ok to look in the mirror and see the real you?
Making that first step to consider a change is the biggest so how about coming along for the ride to find your C spot. The motivator the driver that will get you living the life you deserve.
Are you ready to strip off yet? I promise to take it slow so you can get use to the idea
If you are ready to take off the mask keep reading… only if you are ready.
Taking the first step
Consider what your first step toward confidence would take,
WAIT…… Has that little annoying voice of self doubt, procrastination and fear turned up yet?
Our ego tends to get in the way about now because it wants us to play a small game. When you finally muster up the courage to try something new it’s sure to turn up I guarantee it. So what does it have to say something like this maybe…?
What if you make a mistake?
What it they don’t like you
They won’t like what I have to say ………….how am I doing? Please indulge your ego for a few minutes and list what else it feels the need to share with you…..
Now really flip it all on it’s head and consider what you could tell yourself instead?
Every thing I do, say, feel is perfect
They are going to love me what else could you tell yourself instead of the self doubt?
GO ahead change those though to support you, encourage you and nurture you.
Now pay attention BIG thinkers
Make a list of things you’ve never done and have always wanted to do!
Go crazy like attend a networking event on my own, head to gold class cinema and enjoy a peaceful glass of wine with no interruptions, take a me day off ……..keep em coming
Serious contenders stop here!
What have you truly missed out on in your life for allowing yourself to play a low level game?
To consider exploring further internal beliefs that have stopped you from living a life you deserve then choose to change your core beliefs.
WARNING be careful what you wish for next because what you are about to focus on you may actually just get!
